Aspirants are generally required to possess a three-year Engineering Diploma or a Degree (B.E./B.Tech) in a relevant engineering discipline from a recognized University or Institute. For the Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) posts, candidates must hold a B.Sc. in Physics and Chemistry with at least 45% aggregate marks. Nationality and Medical Standards
Applicants must be citizens of India, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees. Furthermore, all candidates must pass a medical examination, adhering to the general fitness and vision standards prescribed by the Railway Recruitment Board.
The Selection Process: Your Path to Indian Railways
The RRB JE recruitment process is comprehensive, designed to select the most suitable candidates through a multi-stage evaluation. It comprises four main stages: two Computer-Based Tests (CBT-1 and CBT-2), Document Verification, and a Medical Examination.
Computer-Based Test Stage 1 (CBT-1)
CBT-1 serves as a screening test. It consists of 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions for 100 marks, to be completed in 90 minutes. The subjects covered include Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Science. There is a negative marking of 1/3rd mark for each incorrect answer. Candidates who achieve the minimum qualifying marks and surpass the cut-off are shortlisted for CBT-2, though CBT-1 marks are generally not considered for the final merit list.
Computer-Based Test Stage 2 (CBT-2)
CBT-2 is the crucial stage for final merit determination. This test is more in-depth, evaluating both technical knowledge and general aptitude. It includes questions on General Awareness, Physics & Chemistry, Basics of Computer Applications, Basics of Environment & Pollution Control, and a significant section on Technical Abilities specific to the candidate's engineering discipline. Similar to CBT-1, there is a 1/3rd negative marking for wrong answers.
Document Verification & Medical Examination
Candidates who qualify in both CBTs are then called for Document Verification. This stage requires candidates to present all original educational certificates, identity proofs, and category certificates (if applicable) for verification. Following successful document verification, candidates undergo a thorough Medical Examination to ensure they meet the stringent physical and visual standards required for railway service. Final appointment letters are issued only after clearing all these stages.
How to Apply for RRB JE 2026
The application process for RRB JE 2026 was conducted online through the official regional RRB websites. Candidates were required to register, fill in personal and educational details, and select their preferred RRB and railway zone. A live photograph capture was part of the application process, and authentication via DigiLocker or Aadhaar was strongly advised.
